History

Minami-Dewa Station opened on 5 March 1952 on the Ōu Main Line in the city of Yamagata, Yamagata Prefecture, operated since 1 April 1987 by East Japan Railway Company. The unstaffed station has a single side platform serving one bi-directional track and lies 93.6 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Fukushima. A new station building was completed in 2000 in connection with the Yamagata Shinkansen's extension to Shinjō, with the platform shifted from the west side of the tracks to the east and lengthened to accommodate six-car electric trains. The station is on the "Yamagata Line" nickname segment but Yamagata Shinkansen services do not stop here.

Notes
