Takase Station opened on 1 July 1950. Parcel handling was abolished and the station was made unstaffed on 1 April 1971. It passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 at the JNR privatisation. The station building was rebuilt in 1999, and the Eki-net Q-Chiket service started on 1 October 2024.

Notes

To distinguish Takase from the JR Shikoku Yosan Line's Takase Station in Mitoyo, Kagawa, tickets issued at this station are printed with the prefix "(仙山) 高瀬" — the "Senzan" identifying the line. The station was the setting for Studio Ghibli's animated film "Only Yesterday" (1991); although the station building has since been rebuilt, the surroundings — including the telephone booth alongside the station — retain their original look.
