History

Asahigaoka Station is a subway stop on the Sendai Subway Namboku Line in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. It opened on 15 July 1987 with the original Namboku Line, is located 3.3 kilometres from the northern terminus at Izumi-Chūō, and is an underground station with a single island platform serving two tracks. Service was suspended after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake on 11 March 2011, replaced by buses from 14 March, and resumed on 29 April when full Namboku Line operation was restored. Platform screen doors entered service on 30 January 2010, and the sub-station name "Hitachi Systems Hall Sendai-mae" was adopted in December 2015.

In 2002 Asahigaoka was selected as one of the "100 best stations of the Tōhoku region", an honour shared with only a handful of subway stops.
