History

Kōtōdai-Kōen Station opened on 1987-07-15 as part of the inaugural section of the Sendai Subway Namboku Line, beneath central Aoba-ku, Sendai. It lies about 7.3 rail kilometres from the line's northern terminus at Izumi-Chūō. The station has a single island platform serving two tracks at underground level. Service was suspended between 2011-03-11 and 2012-04-29 after the Tōhoku earthquake damaged the subway network. Daily passenger volume averaged 15,138 in fiscal 2015. The station serves the cluster of city and prefectural government offices nearby, including Sendai City Hall, Aoba Ward Office, and the Miyagi Prefectural Office.

Notes

The station is the closest stop to Sendai City Hall, the Aoba Ward Office, and the Miyagi Prefectural Government building, making it effectively the administrative-precinct station for Sendai.
