History

Omachi Nishi-koen Station opened on 2015-12-06 with the inauguration of the Sendai Subway Tōzai Line, the city's second metro line. It is numbered T05 and sits 5.0 km from the western terminus at Yagiyama Zoological Park. Initial planning used the working name "Nishi-Kōen Station" from October 2000; following requests from local neighbourhood associations, the naming committee adopted "Omachi Nishi-koen" as the final name on 2013-12-24. Located beneath the intersection of Nishi-Kōen-dōri with Aoba-dōri/Ōmachi-dōri, it has a single island platform on the third basement level and a turnback siding toward Yagiyama Zoological Park.

Notes

The working name during planning was simply "Nishi-Kōen", but local neighbourhood associations pushed for adding the district name "Omachi" before the official name was set in 2013.
