History

Natori Station opened on 11 October 1888 as Masuda Station on the Nippon Railway company's line through what is now Miyagi Prefecture. It was renamed Natori on 25 May 1963 in step with the establishment of Natori City. At the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways it passed jointly to JR East for passenger services and to JR Freight as a freight terminal. The Sendai Airport Access Line opened on 18 March 2007 with Natori as its starting point, and through services from the Sendai Airport Line via the Tōhoku Main Line to Sendai have run from that date. The station is a joint-use facility, staffed solely by JR East personnel even where Sendai Airport Transit services operate.
