History
Koguwa Station, on the Yamagata Railway Flower Nagai Line in Shirataka, Yamagata Prefecture, opened on 1922-12-11. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the 1987 privatization of Japanese National Railways, then transferred to the third-sector Yamagata Railway on 1988-10-25 when the Flower Nagai Line passed out of JR control. A new station building was completed in April 2004. The station has a single side platform serving traffic in both directions and sits 24.6 rail kilometres from the line's southern terminus at Akayu Station, near the Mogami River in the rural northern Yamagata Prefecture countryside.
