History

Sendai Airport Station opened on 18 March 2007 as the southern terminus of the Sendai Airport Line, the third-sector railway built to connect Natori to the airport. Trains take roughly 17 minutes to reach Sendai under rapid service. On 11 March 2011 the line and the station were devastated by the tsunami of the Tōhoku earthquake; rail service was replaced by buses until full restoration on 1 October the same year. The terminus has a head-end island platform on the second floor and links to the airport terminal's second level by a barrier-free overhead walkway. New departure melodies featuring the Wake Up, Girls! anime theme were adopted on 27 March 2016.

Notes

Departure announcements are made in four languages — Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean — reflecting the station's role as Sendai Airport's rail gateway.
