History

Uzen-Nakayama Station opened on 15 November 1952 on the Ōu Main Line in the city of Kaminoyama, Yamagata Prefecture. Passing-loop facilities were completed in 1961, and passenger handling was scaled back when the station became unstaffed in 1970. The line was double-tracked through the station in 1971, giving it two opposed side platforms. Operations passed to JR East at the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station was renamed to its present form on 1 July 1992, and a new station building was completed in 2001.
