History
Orihata Station opened on 1 June 1959 as Nishi-Miyauchi Station on what was then the Japanese National Railways Nagai Line. The station passed to JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, then transferred to the third-sector Yamagata Railway on 25 October 1988 with the line's conversion to the Flower Nagai Line. It was renamed to its current name Orihata on the same day. The station consists of a single side platform serving traffic in both directions and is unstaffed.
