History

Isaryō Station opened on 30 October 1935 as a stop on the eastern half of the Yonesaka Line in western Yamagata Prefecture, deep in the mountains of the town of Oguni. The station passed to JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The current single-platform station building dates from December 1993. Services along the Yonesaka Line through Isaryō have been suspended since the August 2022 flood damage to the surrounding section, and the unattended station remains out of use pending the line's restoration decision.
