History

Higashi-Shiroishi Station began life as Higashi-Shiroishi Signal Station on 1 March 1961 and was upgraded to a passenger-only unattended station on 20 December 1961 on the Tōhoku Main Line in the city of Shiroishi, Miyagi. The station was provisionally named Omote-Zaō before opening. Following the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it became part of JR East, and Suica was introduced on 26 October 2003. Originally only a subset of trains stopped here, but full local-train service began in December 2000. Eki-net QChiké ticketless boarding began on 1 October 2024.

Notes

Although named Higashi-Shiroishi, the station sits across the Shiraishi River from most residences; its main users live on the Zaō Town side of the bridge.
