History
Minami-Kakuda Station opened on 1 July 1986 with the inaugural operations of the third-sector Abukuma Express, succeeding the former JNR Maruko Line in the city of Kakuda, Miyagi. The unattended station has a single side platform reached by steps, with only a small shelter rather than a station building. Separated from central Kakuda by a low ridge, it serves a quiet area of rice fields and farmland; the slogan "Forest of Tokura" refers to Mount Tokura about four kilometres to the west. The site of Kakuda Castle lies nearby.

Notes
The station has no building at all — only a shelter on the platform and stairs leading to ground level.
