History
Nakaura Station opened on 1953-07-01 on the Uetsu Main Line, 21.5 kilometres from the line's starting point at Niitsu, in what is now the city of Shibata in Niigata Prefecture. The station passed from Japanese National Railways to JR East with the privatisation of 1987-04-01. It originally had two opposed side platforms linked by a footbridge to the station building; one track was subsequently lifted, leaving the second platform and footbridge in place but disused. Today the unstaffed station has a single side platform serving one bi-directional track.

Notes
The second platform and footbridge from the station's two-track era survive on site as physical remnants, even though the corresponding track was removed years ago.
