Yanagawa Station carries the catchphrase "Birthplace of the Date clan". The Abukuma Express head office stands on the south side of the station along with the company's rolling-stock depot, and the station is the operational core of the line — some services start or terminate here. Pre-existing hand-printed tickets to the next station, Yanagawa Kibō-no-Mori Park-mae, used to be sold here.
