History
Kanayagawa Station opened on 1909-10-18 on the Tōhoku Main Line, 264.0 kilometres north of Tokyo. The Matsukawa derailment of 1949-08-17, an alleged sabotage incident in which crew members died on duty, occurred in the vicinity. JR East took over operations on 1987-04-01 at JNR privatisation. The station has one island platform connected to its station building by a footbridge; the Midori no Madoguchi closed on 31 January 2023. Located in the southern part of Fukushima City, the station primarily serves commuters and students travelling along the Tōhoku Main Line corridor.
