History

Adachi Station opened on 11 July 1917 on the Tōhoku Main Line in what is now Nihonmatsu, Fukushima. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1974. Parcel service ended on 1 February 1984, and the station was destaffed on 1 December 1984, with ticket-counter work continuing under dispatch from Nihonmatsu Station. At the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987 the stop became part of JR East and was restaffed. Suica acceptance began on 14 March 2009. An east-west free passageway, new plazas, and a new elevated station building entered service on 23 January 2016, and elevators connecting the platform and concourse opened on 27 December 2017.
