History

Motomiya Station opened on 1887-12-15 on the Tōhoku Main Line, 240.7 kilometres north of Tokyo. The station serves the city of Motomiya in central Fukushima Prefecture, with the Abukuma River and National Route 4 running nearby. JR East absorbed the station at JNR privatisation on 1987-04-01. The platform layout consists of one island and one side platform connected to the building by a footbridge, with a staffed Midori no Madoguchi ticket office. Motomiya remains a local-stop station on the corridor, primarily serving commuter and school traffic to Kōriyama and Fukushima City to the south and north.
