History
Akogashima Station is on JR East's Ban'etsu West Line in Atami-machi Akoshima, Kōriyama, Fukushima Prefecture. It opened on 26 July 1898 as a station of the Iwaetsu Railway, which was nationalised on 1 November 1906. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1962, traffic control was transferred remotely from Bandai-Atami Station on 1 February 1968, parcel handling and staffing ended on 1 November 1972, and a new station building was built in 1981. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station came under JR East. It has dual side platforms with a footbridge; the up direction uses platform 1 only and the down platform 2 is used only when meets are scheduled.
