History

Minami-Wakamatsu Station opened on 10 August 1995 on the Aizu Railway Aizu Line in the city of Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture. The station was originally planned under the working name Ichinoseki Kōgyō Danchi (industrial-park) Station, since the Aizu Railway expected commuter traffic to a nearby industrial estate after taking over the JR Aizu Line in 1987. Construction was finally authorized in 1995 once industrial-park lot sales firmed up and Fukushima was confirmed as host of the 50th National Sports Festival. The station has a single 55-metre side platform connected to its small unstaffed building by a ramp. Daily ridership was reported at 14 in fiscal 2016.

Notes

From 2009 to 2013, a special temporary stop called Ichinoseki Rokujizōson Station operated between this station and the next on 23–24 August each year to serve a local festival.
