History

Yunokami-Onsen Station opened on 22 December 1932 as Yunokami Station, a general station on the state-operated Aizu Line in Shimogō, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture. Freight handling was withdrawn in 1971 and parcel handling in 1984. On 16 July 1987 the line was transferred from the newly-formed East Japan Railway Company to the third-sector Aizu Railway, and the station was renamed to its present name. The current thatched-roof station building, echoing the architecture of nearby Ōuchi-juku post town, was completed on 19 December 1987 and features an irori open hearth in the waiting room. It was selected as one of the Top 100 Stations of Tōhoku in 2002 and received a Japan Railway Awards Special Award in fiscal 2005.
