History

Kagamiishi Station opened on 25 June 1911 as a station of the Imperial Government Railway in the town of Kagamiishi, Fukushima. Freight handling ended in 1978 and parcel handling in 1984, after which the station became unstaffed in December 1984. Outgoing ticket inspection was thereafter handled by staff dispatched from Sukagawa Station. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it joined JR East. Suica IC card service began on 14 March 2009. The station has a single island platform serving two tracks; the building also houses the local chamber of commerce office, which operates a simple-ticket counter as a contracted facility.
