History
Noto-Kashima Station opened on 27 August 1932 with the extension of the Nanao Line from Noto-Nakajima to Anamizu. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1960 and parcel service on 15 March 1972, after which the station became unstaffed. The present station building was completed in February 1988, when it received its nickname Noto-Sakura Station ('Noto cherry-blossom station'). With the September 1991 transfer of the Wakura-Onsen–Wajima portion of the Nanao Line from JR West, the station has been operated by the Noto Railway. It was named in 1999 to the first round of the Chūbu One Hundred Selected Stations.

Notes
About 110 Yoshino cherry trees were planted along the platform by local residents in 1932 to celebrate the station's opening; they have since grown into a 'cherry tunnel' that is lit with paper lanterns at night during the spring viewing season.
