History
Kutano Station opened on October 12, 1919 as a Railway Bureau facility on the Tōhoku Main Line in present-day Shirakawa, Fukushima. Freight handling ended in December 1962, parcels in February 1984, and the station was destaffed in December 1984; a compact replacement station building was completed in March 1985. The station passed to JR East at the 1987 JNR privatization. From June 2019 management transferred from Shin-Shirakawa to Kōriyama Station, and it sits 192.9 rail kilometers from the line's starting point at Tokyo Station, with one island platform connected to the building by a footbridge.
