History
Doichi Station opened on 1 September 1929 on what is today the Iiyama Line in present-day Tōkamachi, Niigata. Following nationalization in 1944 it came under the Ministry of Transport and Communications and later JNR, was contracted out from June 1961, lost freight handling in December 1970 and parcels in November 1982 when it was destaffed and reduced to simplified entrustment. With the 1987 JNR privatization the station passed to JR East, and full destaffing followed in 1991. A replacement station building, providing waiting facilities only, was completed in December 2000. The station sits 70.4 kilometers from the line's starting point at Toyono.
