History
Minami-Takada Station opened on 10 December 1961 as a new JNR Shin'etsu Main Line station, built as a petitioned facility with the surrounding community contributing the land, construction costs and forecourt works. From the start it was an unstaffed station serving only diesel-railcar passengers. The 1987 JNR privatization brought it under JR East, and on 14 March 2015, with the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension from Nagano to Kanazawa, parallel sections of the Shin'etsu Main Line were transferred to third-sector operators and Minami-Takada became a station on the Echigo Tokimeki Railway Myōkō Haneuma Line. The station has a single side platform with the building directly on it, and is 29.0 kilometers from Myōkō-Kōgen.
