History

Kita-Arai Station opened on 15 July 1955 as a Japanese National Railways stop on what was then the Shinetsu Main Line, in present-day Myōkō, Niigata. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR it came under JR East. On 14 March 2015, when the Hokuriku Shinkansen was extended from Nagano to Kanazawa, local passenger services on the parallel former Shinetsu and Hokuriku main lines were reassigned to third-sector operators, and Kita-Arai was transferred to the Echigo Tokimeki Railway, which now operates it as a wayside stop on the Myōkō Haneuma Line. The station is unstaffed and has a single side platform.
