History

Echigo Oshiage Hisui Kaigan Station opened on 13 March 2021 on the Echigo Tokimeki Railway's Nihonkai Hisui Line, between Kajiyashiki and Itoigawa. After the parallel Hokuriku Main Line was transferred from JR West to the third-sector Echigo Tokimeki Railway in 2015 following the Hokuriku Shinkansen's Nagano-to-Kanazawa extension, Niigata Prefecture and the railway evaluated adding an infill station near a local school and hospital. The MLIT Hokuriku Transportation Bureau approved the new station in September 2019. Construction began on 14 March 2020. The final name was chosen in August 2020 by public survey, and the station opened the following spring, partly subsidised by the Japan Rail Construction agency and local government.
