History

Notobe Station opened on 24 April 1898 with the original Nanao Railway line linking Tsubata to Yatashin via Nanao, serving the rural community of what is now Nakanoto in Ishikawa Prefecture. The Nanao Railway was nationalised on 1 September 1907, and the line received its current Nanao Line designation in 1909. The present station building was completed in April 1957 and reorganised in 2002 to incorporate a town gallery. Freight handling ended in 1961 and parcel handling in 1984, and the station passed to West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at privatisation on 1 April 1987. ICOCA service began on 13 March 2021, after which the station became unstaffed.

Notes

Since 1 April 2015 the station's approaching-train chime has been an arrangement of Yo Hitoto's song "Hanamizuki", a regional touch added by JR West.
