History

Kita-Iiyama Station opened on 6 July 1923 as a halt on the privately owned Iiyama Railway. It was upgraded to a full station on 9 September 1941, and on 1 June 1944 the Iiyama Railway was nationalised, placing the stop on the Iiyama Line under the Ministry of Communications and Transport (later JNR). Reclassified as a passenger-only station on 20 August 1960, it became a contracted station in 1962, then was destaffed in November 1982 and reduced to simple-commission ticket sales. JR East took over at the 1 April 1987 privatisation, and the station building was rebuilt in October 2001.
