History

Kurohime Station opened on 1 May 1888 as Kashiwabara Station on what is now the Shinano Railway Kita-Shinano Line, taking its original name from the surrounding village in northern Nagano. It was renamed Kurohime on 1 October 1968 after the nearby Mount Kurohime. Freight and parcel handling ended in 1984. The station passed to JR East with the 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways and was the operational boundary between the Nagano and Niigata branch offices of the old Shinetsu Main Line. On 14 March 2015 the section was reassigned to the third-sector Shinano Railway in connection with the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Kanazawa. Suica acceptance is scheduled to begin in March 2026.
