History

Kosagoe Station opened on 11 November 1924 as Kosagoemae Station on the Shimotsuke Electric Tramway, the predecessor of today's Tōbu Kinugawa Line. It was renamed Kosagoe on 6 July 1930. Tōbu Railway absorbed the Shimotsuke operator in May 1943, bringing the station into the Tōbu network. The station building was rebuilt in April 1993 for the opening of the neighbouring Tōbu World Square theme park, when it briefly served as the park's main rail access. From 17 March 2012 the station was numbered TN-54 under Tōbu's system-wide numbering. In October 2017 the platform itself was registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property in recognition of its distinctive boulder-faced earthen retaining structure.
