History

Awajima (Osakaya Shop-mae) Station is on the Toyama Chihō Railway Toyama-kō Line in Awajima-machi 3-chōme, Toyama, with station number C31. It was one of the four new stations built for the 29 April 2006 Toyama Light Rail conversion; the Toyama City Construction Committee proposed a station near Chiyoda-chō on 27 November 2003, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport authorised the plan on 18 February 2005, and the naming rights were sold to Osakaya Shop. The station name was decided by a committee on 2 December 2005, with the bracketed format used to avoid confusion among the Osakaya Shop's multiple Toyama Prefecture stores. The station opened with the rest of the Toyama-kō Line on 29 April 2006 and became a Toyama Chihō Railway station on 22 February 2020.

Notes

Osakaya Shop's Awajima store is right next to the station, and customers who buy a valid voucher at the store can use the store's parking lot as a park-and-ride facility for the Toyama-kō Line — one of the systematic park-and-ride encouragements that the Toyama Light Rail conversion built in.
