History

Hon-Tsubata Station traces its origin to a temporary stop opened on 24 April 1898 by the private Nanao Railway. The site was relocated about twenty metres south and reopened on 25 June 1902 as Hon-Tsubata Station. Nationalisation of the Nanao Railway followed on 1 September 1907, and the line was redesignated the Nanao Line in October 1909. Freight handling ceased in 1975, and the station passed to JR West with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. ICOCA support began on 13 March 2021, and staffing was withdrawn from 1 April 2021.
