History
Shimotsuke-Hanaoka Station opened on 15 August 1934 on the Karasuyama Line, a 20.4 km branch from Hōshakuji to Karasuyama in Tochigi Prefecture. Located in the town of Takanezawa, the station has one side platform serving a single track, with no station building, and is unattended. Its reading was changed from Shimozuke-Hanaoka to Shimotsuke-Hanaoka on 1 December 1990, and the station was incorporated into the Tokyo metropolitan suburban area on 14 March 2009. Control passed to JR East with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987.
