History

Higashi-Nojiri Station opened on 10 August 1951 as a passenger-only halt on what was then Japanese National Railways' Jōhana Line. It came under the control of West Japan Railway Company at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR. The station has a single side platform serving one bi-directional track, and is staffed; it lies 15.5 km from the Takaoka end of the Jōhana Line, in the city of Tonami. The station mainly serves nearby Tonami Industrial High School and farming hamlets in southern Tonami.

Notes

Higashi-Nojiri sits on the Jōhana Line directly opposite Takagi Station: the two stops were sited together in 1899 as a compromise between the neighbouring villages of Higashi-Nojiri and Nojiri, with Higashi-Nojiri itself added as a separate halt half a century later in 1951.
