History
Ubashima Station opened on 10 February 1959 on the Agatsuma Line in what is now Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture, 7.7 km from the line's terminus at Shibukawa, and passed to JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station was absorbed into JR East's Tokyo near-suburban zone on 1 October 2014. The unattended station consists of a single side platform with a shelter; there is no station building, so passengers buy tickets from the conductor on board.

Notes
Although the station name is written 祖母島 ("grandmother island"), the proper reading is "Ubashima", not Sobashima — preserving an older local toponym that predates standardised place-name readings.
