History

Tatara Station opened on 1 April 1955 on the Mōka Line, a branch then operated by Japanese National Railways and now run by the third-sector Mōka Railway. The station sits in the town of Ichikai, Tochigi Prefecture, 31.2 rail kilometres from Shimodate at the line's southern end. It passed to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation and was transferred to the Mōka Railway when the line was spun off on 11 April 1988. The station has a single side platform serving traffic in both directions and is unstaffed.
