History

Mikawa Station opened on 1 April 1898 with the Hokuriku Line's extension from Komatsu to Kanazawa, becoming a Hokuriku Main Line station after the 1909 line-name reform. Freight handling ended on 20 November 1981 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. The station passed to JR West at the 1987 JNR privatisation. Construction of an elevated station building began in May 1994 and the new structure, including a community plaza, opened on 15 March 1995. ICOCA service began on 15 April 2017, the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 30 June 2022, and on 16 March 2024 the station transferred to the IR Ishikawa Railway when the Hokuriku Shinkansen reached Tsuruga.
