History

Hitachi-Kōnosu Station opened on 12 June 1918 as a station on the second Mito Railway in what is today Naka, Ibaraki Prefecture. The line was nationalised on 1 December 1927, bringing the station into the state-railway network. It was absorbed into JR East upon the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station sits on the Suigun Line, 13.4 km from the line's starting point at Mito Station, and consists of a single side platform serving traffic in both directions. The station is unattended and primarily serves the surrounding community, including the nearby Kiuchi Brewing Company premises.
