History

Mashiko Station opened on 11 July 1913 as a station on the Japanese Government Railway, which subsequently became the Japanese National Railways, in what is today Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture. It was absorbed into JR East upon the privatisation of the JNR on 1 April 1987, and transferred to the third-sector Mooka Railway on 11 April 1988 when the operator took over the Mooka Line. A new station building was completed in March 1988, around the time of the transfer. The station has a single side platform serving traffic in both directions, and sits 25.1 rail kilometers from the terminus of the line at Shimodate. The town centre and Mashiko's pottery district lie within walking distance.
