History
Zen Station opened on 10 November 1928 as part of the original Jomo Line, in the city of Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture. It sits 14.3 km from the terminus at Chuo-Maebashi and has remained throughout its history a small wayside stop with a single side platform serving both directions. The station is unstaffed and serves the surrounding Kasukawa-machi Zen district, with the Kasukawa Folk Museum and the ruins of Zen Castle (Zenjo) among the nearest landmarks. The name reflects the local place name rather than any connection to the Zen school of Buddhism.
