History

Egi Station opened on 10 November 1928 with the rest of the Jōmō Electric Railway's Jōmō Line. It is located in the Egi district of Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, 6.2 kilometres from the line's western terminus at Chūō-Maebashi. The station consists of a single side platform serving traffic in both directions and is a contracted-out staffed station, with attendants present from 12:30 to 18:00 daily. On 21 September 1992 it began handling express tickets for the Tobu Railway's "Ryōmō" service, and in December 2009 a park-and-ride lot was opened in front of the station as part of a forecourt-redevelopment scheme.

Notes

Egi sits only 0.6 kilometres from the adjacent Shinzō-Kekkan Center Station — the shortest interstation distance on the entire Jōmō Line.
