History

Chūō-Maebashi Station opened on 10 November 1928 as a terminal station on the Jōmō Electric Railway in the city of Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture. The original station building was destroyed by fire during the air raid on Maebashi of 5 August 1945. The station remains the Maebashi-side terminus of the Jōmō Line, situated 25.4 kilometres from the opposing terminus at Nishi-Kiryū, and is configured with a double bay platform serving three tracks. The Jōmō Railway company offices, Gunma Prefectural Office, Maebashi City Hall and the Maebashi Central Post Office all lie within the immediate vicinity of the station.

Notes

The original 1928 station building did not survive the war: it was burned down in the 5 August 1945 American air raid on Maebashi, before being rebuilt postwar in its present form as a small-terminal three-track station.
