History

Azami Station opened on 5 May 1937 on the Tōbu Kiryū Line in what is now the city of Midori, Gunma Prefecture. During platform-extension works in 1954–1955 substantial Jōmon-period archaeological remains were uncovered at the station site; the find was later proclaimed a Gunma Prefectural Historic Site in 1960. Tōbu introduced system-wide station numbering on 17 March 2012, assigning Azami the identifier TI-54. The station is operated by the private operator Tōbu Railway and is configured with a single side platform serving traffic in both directions.
