History

Minohamagakuen Station opened on 13 March 2021 as an infill station on the Hitachinaka Seaside Railway Minato Line, between Hiraiso and Isozaki in the city of Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture. The station was built jointly with the adjacent Minohama Gakuen — a new combined elementary-and-junior-high school created the following month by amalgamating three primary and two middle schools in the city. Construction costs of roughly 54.26 million yen were split equally between the national government (through the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency), Ibaraki Prefecture and the city of Hitachinaka. The station name was formally announced on 25 May 2020. It is unattended and consists of a single 65-metre side platform with fixed anti-fall fencing.

Notes

The station name derives indirectly from the Man'yōshū: the beaches of nearby Isozaki are mentioned in the eighth-century poetry anthology under the name "Minohama," which inspired the name of the school the station serves.
