Tanuma Station opened on 20 March 1894 in what is now Sano, Tochigi Prefecture, and is operated today by the private Tōbu Railway on the Tōbu Sano Line, 17.7 km from the line's terminus at Tatebayashi. The station building stands above one island platform connected by an underground passage. Station numbering across the Tōbu network was introduced on 17 March 2012, at which point Tanuma was assigned the code TI-37. In fiscal 2019 it averaged 979 boarding passengers per day.
