History
Omoigawa Station opened on 10 April 1911 on what is today the Ryōmō Line, in present-day Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture. It is the easternmost station in JR East's Takasaki branch territory, with neighbouring Oyama Station falling under the Omiya branch. Freight handling was discontinued in 1961 and parcels in 1984; the station became unstaffed in 1985. JR East assumed operations at the 1987 JNR privatization. A reconstructed station building opened on 11 March 2000, and Suica acceptance began on 18 November 2001. The station was converted to an elevated layout above a north–south concourse in August 2010, with the north entrance completed in 2011.

Notes
The station lies about two kilometres east of the Omoi River, which gives the station its name, despite no river crossing being visible from the platform.
