History
Tonoyama Station opened on 17 July 1928 as a stop on the Minato Railway in present-day Hitachinaka, Ibaraki. After wartime consolidation it became an Ibaraki Kōtsū station on 1 August 1944. From September 1996 the station was staffed during weekday commuting hours, but on 1 April 2008 the Minato Line passed to the third-sector Hitachinaka Seaside Railway, and after 14 May 2010 the post became permanently unstaffed. The station has a single side platform serving the single-track line and sits in a valley below the surrounding residential area.

Notes
The bench under the platform shelter is said to have been reused from the abolished Bakurōmachi-iriguchi stop on the Ibaraki Kōtsū Suihin Line.
