History
Ōhirashita Station opened on 8 March 1895 on the Ryōmō Railway as Tomiyama Station, named after the surrounding village. The line was sold to Nippon Railway in 1897, nationalised in 1906, and assigned to the Ryōmō Line on 12 October 1909. On 16 October 1918 the station was renamed Ōhirashita, reflecting its position at the foot of Mount Ōhira. It became unstaffed in March 1985, returned to JR East at privatisation in April 1987, and was simplified in summer 2001 from a two-platform/three-track layout to its present single side platform with one track. Suica service began on 18 November 2001.
